A high number of people choose not to visit the dentist for regular check-ups and cleanings because they suffer from dental anxiety. We understand the dentist office can be a scary place, and so we take extra measures to ensure all our patients are as comfortable as they can every time they come in.

Dental anxiety is common, and it may cause some patients to delay routine check-ups, cleanings, or necessary treatment. At Two Cities Dental, we want every patient to feel informed, respected, and comfortable throughout their visit. Depending on your treatment and individual needs, we may offer different comfort options.
Topical Anesthetic: A flavored topical gel may be applied to the treatment area before local anesthesia. It helps numb the surface of the gums and can make the injection more comfortable.
Local Anesthetic: Local anesthesia is used to numb a specific area of the mouth during dental treatment. Temporary numbness of the lips, cheeks, or tongue is normal after an injection. Your dental team will provide instructions for eating and drinking safely while the area remains numb.
Sedation: Sedation may be considered for patients who experience significant dental anxiety or who are undergoing certain procedures. The appropriate option depends on your health history, treatment, and individual needs.

Before sedation or any medication is administered, it is important that our dental team has an up-to-date medical history, including current medications, allergies, and relevant health information. Your dentist will determine whether sedation is appropriate and explain what to expect before treatment.
Minimal sedation may involve medication taken before a dental procedure to help reduce anxiety while keeping the patient awake and responsive. Your dentist will determine the appropriate medication and dosage based on your medical history and treatment needs.
With moderate sedation, the patient remains responsive but may feel very relaxed and may have limited memory of parts of the procedure. Monitoring and appropriate safety precautions are important throughout treatment.
Deep sedation produces a deeper level of relaxation and reduced awareness. Patients may still respond to stimulation, but closer monitoring and appropriate clinical supervision are required.
General anesthesia produces a controlled state of unconsciousness and is generally reserved for specific situations and procedures. It requires appropriate medical assessment, monitoring, and trained professionals.
